Portability
This notice is designed to advise Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) participants of the possible advantages of moving from a high poverty area to another location through a system called portability. Portability allows the participant to transfer to a more desirable location or jurisdiction. Some of the reasons to use portability are:
A participating family must live in the jurisdiction of Metro West Housing Solutions for at least one year prior to being eligible for portability. After that year, if a family desires to exercise their right to transfer to another jurisdiction they may do so if they are in good standing with Metro West Housing Solutions. An HCV participant may transfer anywhere in the United States as long as that jurisdiction is administering a tenant based voucher program. The receiving jurisdiction will determine their own payment standard and utility allowance and different occupancy standards could change the bedroom size of a family's voucher. If you are a Housing Choice Voucher holder with Metro West Housing Solutions, and you desire to move to another area, please contact your Assisted Housing Specialist and they will be happy to assist you.
